Braid, the critically acclaimed puzzle platformer created by Jonathan Blow, will be getting the remaster treatment next to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary.
Braid: Anniversary Edition is launching on April 30, 2024 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, while Netflix users will also be able to play the game as part of their subscription. Blow’s Thekla Inc studio is handling the remaster, which will feature “hand-repainted graphics” by the artists who worked on the original version of the game, plus improved animations with more frames to allow for smoother motion.
Meanwhile, Blow confirmed that Braid: Anniversary Edition will include 15 hours of commentary by the developer, as well as nine the contributors.
The goal is to make it the craziest, most-in-depth commentary ever put in a video game. You can follow particular threads of commentary spatially, through wormholes that go from level to level to see evolutions of particular concepts.
The commentary has lots of markup so we can circle stuff on the screen, point arrows at whatever visual detail we are talking about, show diagrams, play back recordings of gameplay to show what happens if you try doing this or that in a particular level, and many other capabilities.
