Legendary British game developer Team 17 has announced that it will be changing its name after 34 years, and in early February will be known as Everyplay Group Plc.
Despite the name change, the company will still keep the Team 17 branding alive as one of three divisions under its wing, which includes Astragon Entertainment (a publisher of simulation games) and StoryToys (creator of educational apps). Team 17 will remain as its video games label.

Group CEO of Team 17, Steve Bell, commented:
I am excited to be unveiling our new Group brand today, which we believe better represents our business which has evolved greatly since the IPO and reflects our DNA to never stop playing. This rebrand not only creates an ideal backdrop to foster greater cross-collaboration internally but also reflects our aspirations to expand our reach across complementary sectors within the broader indie market.
Fundamentally, we want to create pioneering and captivating experiences that enrich and inspire players around the world, and I firmly believe everplay will become synonymous with creating games that deliver a lifetime of play.
Team 17 was formed back in 1990 and is based in Wakefield, UK, and is responsible for a number of classic video games across more than three decades, including Worms, Alien Breed, Superfrog, and more. Worms in particular has seen countless entires and spin-offs, including Worms Armageddon, Worms Open Warfare, Worms Blast, and Worms 3D.
Back in October 2023, Team 17 revealed that that the company was undergoing a restructuring process that would see 50 people lose their jobs from the company’s QA, usability, programming, and marketing divisions. These layoffs also saw Michael Pattison, head of Team 17’s digital division, depart the studio.
