Activision has revealed that Call of Duty 2026 — rumoured to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — is not in development for the PS4, confirming the the series is finally moving on from last-generation systems after all these years.
“Not sure where this one started, but it’s not true. The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4,” reads a post on the official Call of Duty X account, in response to a rumour that the new game was being playtested on PS4. Presumably this also rules out Xbox One, as it seems unlikely that Microsoft’s last-generation system would get a look in while PS4 is left out in the cold.
As mentioned, we’ve heard that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is going to be this year’s entry in the long-running franchise, with Call of Duty content creator TDAWG predicting that MW4 will come out in September. In response to this, CharlieIntel responded that “it’ll be October,” which aligns with the launch window for previous Call of Duty games.
That’s about all there is to go on right now, but presumably a formal reveal will be coming soon, as new Call of Duty game are traditionally announced around the summer period. One thing that has been confirmed is that Call Of Duty titles will no longer launch day and date into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The Call of Duty franchise launched in 2003 and has sold over 500 million units worldwide as of October 2023, and attracts around 100 million monthly active users across all formats.
