Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch with 18 multiplayer maps, which includes 16 Core 6v6 maps alongside two Skirmish maps.
One of the key new features of Black Ops 7’s multiplayer suite is the addition of Overload Mode, which sees players battling for control of the Overlord Device in a push and pull 6v6 respawn experience. Only one device is able to spawn on the map at a time, so players will have to work together with their team to secure it at every opportunity.
The position of the Overload Device is always indicated on the HUD and Tac-Map, so be prepared for an intense tug of war as the device changes hands often throughout the match. Any player holding the item benefits from a personal radar to help detect nearby enemies attempting to steal it away. At halftime, teams switch sides. Stick together, get to the device, and overload the enemy.

Meanwhile, Activision’s blog post also confirms that modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy, Kill Confirmed, Free-For-All, Hardpoint, Gunfight, Killl Order, and Control will be joining the lineup either during the Beta or at launch.

Back in August, it was reported that Activision was keeping an eye on its lead competitor, Battlefield 6, but is apparently not too concerned as it believes its own franchise is ‘simply too big to fail.’ Despite this, Mike Ybarra, the former head of Blizzard, reckons Battlefield 6 will ‘boot stomp‘ Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 when the pair go head-to-head later this year.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
