A brand new multiplayer map that will see players fighting across a castle ruins has been revealed for Call Of Duty: Ghosts.
At a press event held in London this week, PlayStation Universe was treated to a look at Stonehaven, a location that wouldn’t look out of place if it were plonked right in the middle of the British countryside.
The map wasn’t playable, but we enjoyed a video walkthrough of Stonehaven complete with cinematic, sweeping camera angles across the hilly grounds and moss-ridden castle ruins. Though Activision didn’t tell us if the castle was inspired by anywhere in particular, a quick Google search of Stonehaven points us in the direction of a real-life Scottish town that houses the castle ruins of Dunnottar Castle. And, looking at some of the pictures of the castle there’s certainly some similarities.

Stonehaven appears to be set on high ground overlooking surrounding land, much like typical castles from the medieval period. It also features multi-tiered levels due to the undulating structure of the land so players will have ample opportunity to get to high places to overlook the area of ruined buildings below.

A narrow stream nearby an ancient well overlooking the area runs down to the lower ground providing an ideal spot for sniping. Around the map lies crumbled buildings where only the walls remain, providing plenty of cover and opportunity to snap out of cover and take pot-shots at those running across open ground. The focal point of the map is the castle ruins itself, which is likely to be where most of the action takes place.
The video walkthrough ended with the slamming of the portcullis door, the latticed grille that fortifies the main castle entrance, which we’re told this is a “dynamic element of the map” that players will be able to trigger. We guess then that you’ll be able to trap and ambush enemies inside the castle walls.Nice!

Visually, the map looks fantastic and seems to be set-up nicely for players to use a variety of tactics, from running-and-gunning in the confines of the castle walls to sniping across open ground to ambushing opportunities provided by the many areas of cover.
Along with the other announced maps, Whiteout, Strikezone, Octane and Chasm, CoD: Ghosts appears to have plenty on offer for fans of Call of Duty’s multiplayer mode. Stay tuned to PSU throughout the day where we’ll be bringing you more news from the event.
