Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 developer Infinity Ward has revealed that the game’s campaign is fully playable offline, which will no doubt be a major relief to fans who were frustrated that Black Ops 7 required you to be online and therefore were unable to pause the action.
Beyond that, the developer has also revealed that it’s planning to address the “update requires restart” issue that has plagued Call of Duty for over five years. If you’re not aware, modern Call Of Duty games have to reboot if there’s an update to download, which obviously delays you from jumping into the action — Modern Warfare 4 looks to remove this frustrating element, so that launching the game should go down without a hitch.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 was announced yesterday following months of rumours, with Infinity Ward confirming the game will be coming to PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in October 2026. This marks the first time that the franchise has skipped PS4 and Xbox One, although at this point it’s probably not too surprising.
This latest entry in the long-running franchise will feature three main game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ. The narrative portion of Modern Warfare 4 puts the spotlight on a war between North Korea and South Korea, with players introduced to a new character known as Private Park, while Captain Price will also return following the events of Modern Warfare 3.
