Call of Duty WW2 2017 targeting real-life graphics

Sledgehammer Games’ much-rumored Call of Duty WW2 looks set to pull some major punches in the visual department, if a new job listing posted by the company is anything to go by.

While details on the new Call of Duty game have yet to be officially confirmed by the studio, the job ad implies that the developer is aiming for ‘photorealistic’ graphics with latest entry in the multi-million selling first-person shooter franchise. The job calls for an individual who “can build and texture awe inspiring environments,” and has “a passion for creating game art.

Most interesting, however, is that the successful candidate would be required to “create believable, photo-realistic 3D models and textures from concept art and photo reference.” If this job indeed applies the Call of Duty 2017, then it sounds like it’s going to be a right looker to say the least; just as well too, as competing shooter Battlefield 1 was among the best-looking games of the generation so far, so it would be wise for Activision to compete directly with its rival in this department.

Call of Duty WW2 is the rumored title of this year’s series entry, although a formal announcement has yet to take place. It would seem, however, that Call of Duty WW2 has been hinted at for a good while now. The franchise has been operating on a three-year development cycle for a while now, which is split between Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and of course Sledgehammer itself.

Last year’s title, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, took the series into outer space for the first time, and will receive its next slice of DLC on April 18.
