The Avengers game was in development at Blue Tongue Entertainment and THQ Australia Studio, and was pencilled in for release alongside Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2012. However, the game ended up being canned after THQ’s bankruptcy issues.

Following this, Ubisoft plucked the Avengers license out from amidst the rubble and eventually went on to release Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and Wii U.
