Capcom’s Senior Director of Communications and Community, Chris Kramer, has promised that users will “flip out” over the forthcoming horror title Resident Evil 5 – that is, once people are able to get a hands-on experience with the game later this year.
Speaking during an interview with Major Nelson, Kramer commented, "Just being able to see Resident Evil 5 running, I’m like ‘Oh my god!’ Honestly, when we start showing more of that, when we start letting people go hands-on with that, people are going to flip out.”
“That game to me is super exciting,” he enthused.
Kramer’s comments come following a recent meeting in Japan, where he was able to meet the producers of a number of upcoming Capcom titles due for release over the next few years.
When asked what to expect from the company in 2008, he replied: “We have a really fantastic year ahead of us, a year that’s going to include games like… Resident Evil 5…”
Resident Evil 5 is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and pits players in the shoes of series veteran, Chris Redfield; a former member of the Raccoon Police Department’s elite S.T.A.R.S unit, previously responsible for its involvement in the 1998 “Mansion Incident” from the original Resident Evil.
Now working for a mysterious organisation known as “BSAA”, Redfield finds himself investigating a biohazardous outbreak in a remote African-like setting, where something has befallen the local residents, turning them into brutal killers baying for blood.
So far, the game has yet to receive a firm release date, with Capcom only commenting that a 2009 release is likely. However, fellow Internet blogger “Surfer Girl” believes that the game will hit shelves around September this year.
Stay tuned for more information on the game as soon as it becomes available. For now, head over to PSU’s wish list to see what we’re hoping to see from this latest instalment in the Survival Horror series.
