Community Voice: Uncharted 3 Beta Impressions

Oh dear community, how we at PSU love you so. The forums on our land of PlayStation loveliness always seem to spark up great conversation that really should be brought out from the forum community interaction. Here’s what we should take a look at this time:

From INFAMOUS8’s thread ‘Uncharted 3 Beta Impressions’ in the PS3 Games forum:

“my thoughts……..

GOOD
-Damage is good. Recoil is good. The all around shooting feels much better than it did in U2.
-Power Plays, Kick Backs, and Boosters are well balanced. I thought Power plays would be an issue but they are not.
-Menu is slick. Customization is nice. Cant wait to unlock more. This is perfect for a Third person game.
-Sniper rifle feels perfect.
-Audio is nice. The music and gun sounds are better than U2.
-No grenade pick ups means you cant abuse them like in U2. Very nicely done.
-Cinematic melee is sweet. I like it.

BAD
-Turning feels awkward. Not as smooth as U2.
-Maps have dark spots where its hard to see. The maps both feel kind of big and harder to find people. I hope the final game has smaller maps like Village and Plaza where its not so hard to find people.
-Harder to do pull downs

OVERALL
Better than I thought it would be. Gonna go play some more.”

Other readers seem to agree with most of his points, however during its time of release, the Uncharted beta had multiple network issues, ranging from disconnects to crashing our systems – this was before patch 1.01 that was promptly released yesterday.

Reader TheRavingBudda makes light of the situation:

“My god do i love the idea of Uncharted TV, such a great idea when waiting to get into a game, which has not actually happened for me yet.”

After some discourse about the rocky start, community members started to get some good games in, and posted more impressions.

Here’s where PSU agreed with what ddPLaNeT had to say:

“The guns feel a lot better, now we have a running button wich makes the gameplay fast and intense, running, jumping, climbing makes the game very very diverse imo, something multiplayer games need more…”

“The cinematic gameplay is awesome, i’m now in love with dynamic stages !!! It makes each battle diverse and more immersive. It’s like playing the campaign with friends competing in many battle arenas.

Buddy system is really cool to have”

While there sure is a lot praise for Naughty Dog’s latest multiplayer components introduced through the beta, some players also vocalized opinions on issues with design that they had, which is Part and parcel concerning betas.

Point like pre-assigned weapon layout on the battlefield, too much lighting bloom effects, to matchmaking taking too long.

Tell us what you think, and/or give your impressions in our comments section below.

We love to see our awesome community voice their opinions, and we’ll start promoting them more and more if you keep givin’ ‘em!
