Cox: Uncharted 2 didn’t "redefine" action genre

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer David Cox has said that PS3-exclusive outing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves didn’t redefine the action genre, as its release was limited to one platform.

While Cox heaped praise on the game’s technical achievements – such as its lush visuals and stellar voice acting – he believes that the game would have ultimately reached benchmark status had it been made available on other consoles.

“Visually Uncharted 2 is beautiful and it impresses me technically. But does Uncharted 2 redefine 3rd person action games? I don’t think that it does,” he told PSM3.

“Uncharted 2 is a great game and I enjoyed it immensely. The standouts are the story and the voice acting."

“[But] Uncharted was a single format release. If any game is going to set a benchmark for a genre it would need to do so across multiple platforms."

How do you feel, PSU readers? Do you think Uncharted 2 redefined the action genre despite its single-platform nature? Or do you agree with Cox? Let us know in the comments section below.
