‘Crowded’ Christmas pushed Heavy Rain back to 2010

Quantic Dream’s Guillaume de Fondaumiere has revealed that the decision to push Heavy Rain into 2010 boiled down to the firm wanting to avoid the traditionally busy Christmas period, fearing the psychological thriller may get lost in the holiday shuffle.

“Purely from my perspective, most publishers today realise that it’s not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas,” de Fondaumiere told GI.biz at the GameHorizon event.

“It’s a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life. Everybody at working on the project, both at Quantic and Sony, believe this is the right time,” he added.

PSU recently had the opportunity to go hands-on with the eagerly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, our impressions of which can be read here. Stay tuned for more coverage on Heavy Rain as it becomes available.
