The Lead Designer on Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Riley Cooper, has said that he feels PlayStation Network may provide companies the most effective outlet for delivering online content, suggesting that Sony’s service offers a more “flexible” approach than Microsoft’s Xbox Live.
Cooper was speaking in light of releasing Tomb Raider: Anniversary as a digital download to Xbox 360 owners via Xbox Live, where users are able to download the title – also available on PlayStation 2 and Wii – in episodic chunks.
"I’m very, very interested in digital distribution and the potential it has," said Cooper, during an interview with Gamesindustry.biz. "PlayStation Network is extremely interesting because it’s a more flexible space."
"We made an in-road with Anniversary on 360, and it was a full game essentially, but Microsoft is only slowly increasing requirements and opening up the constraints of Xbox Live”, he added.
“It’s been a slow process, whereas PSN hasn’t been restricted by size, they’ve just done Warhawk for example.”
The company’s next instalment in the Tomb Raider series, Underworld, is currently in development and expected to be released for PS3, PC and Xbox 360 some time in 2008.
