Crytek To Lay Off Estimated 15% Of Workforce, Development Of New Crysis Game Was Put On Hold In Q3 2024

Crytek has announced that it is having to lay off an estimated 15% of it workforce due to what it describes as “unfavourable market dynamics,” while confirming development of the new Crysis was put on hold in Q3 2024.

Speaking in a statement issued on X earlier today, the developer revealed that despite Hunt: Showdown 1896 continuing to deliver growth, the studio is unable to continue as it is and remain financially stable, and therefore has determined that the job cuts are necessary in order to move forward.

Like so many of our peers, we aren’t immune to the complex, unfavourable market dynamics that have hit our industry these past several years. It pains us greatly to share today that we must lay off an estimated 15% of our around 400 employees. The layoffs affect development teams and shared services. This has not been an easy decision to make, and we deeply appreciate the hard work of our talented teams. After putting the development of the next Crysis game on hold in Q3 2024, we have been trying to shift developers over to Hunt: Showdown 1896.

The new Crysis game was announced back in January 2022 as being in early development, although we haven’t heard much about the game since then. Cryetk last touched base on the shooter back in December 2023 during an interview with MP1st, where the studio said it has a “great team working on it!” That’s the last we heard on the project until now.
