Igor Sarzynski, narrative director for CD Projekt RED, has revealed that the team never considered setting an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 after the game’s main endings.
Speaking during a Q&A with PCGamer regarding the development of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Sarzynski had the following to say:
We did consider a couple of other scenarios. But none of them were a continuation of the main game story. The endings are too diverse to have a single post-main story thread make sense for them all—and you don’t want to pick one and invalidate other people’s choices.
The endings are written as we wanted them—leaving players with an uneasy feeling, forcing them to think, not providing straight answers. We always knew we wanted to add an ending in which V gets the cure and survives. But the cost of it had to be huge.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was released in September for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and is the game’s only expansion. While CDPR is still support the game with patches, it has stopped producing any major updates as it shifts focus to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
