Danganronpa 3 in ‘very early’ stages of development

Danganronpa 3 is on the way from Spike Chunsoft but don’t expect it anytime soon. Series writer Kodaka Kazutaka told Polygon that development on the sequel is in “very early” stages and still has plenty of room to change.

"Until everything’s been written, there’s nothing that’s set," explained Kazutaka. "So to answer your question, it’s still very early because the scenario isn’t written yet." He stated that it’s typical for Danganronpa games to have their story and characters change several times during development.

Additionally, Kazutaka is aware of some fans’ opinions that the next game should shift from its “classmates forced to kill” formula to something that address the larger narrative at hand. "It’s pretty much split in the middle in Japan," said Kazutaka. "Half of them want to continue with [a] small group and what happens within there, and the other half wants more of the bigger story."

Meanwhile, the pre-sequel spin-off Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls will arrive in the West for PlayStation Vita this fall.
