The latest issue of weekly gaming news source, Famitsu, has revealed new screenshots for the third installment of the Danganronpa series, New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shin Gakki (Everyone’s New Semester of Killing), which was first announced for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita at the SCEJ Press Conference 2015 in September.
Like the title implies, everything including characters, setting, and story will be completely new in this installment, and will not involve previous characters, or even Hope’s Peak Academy as Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair had. However, everyone’s favorite psychopathic bear will return as ringleader in the sure-to-be-nightmare these characters are to face.
For those unfamiliar with the Danganronpa series, they are visual novel adventure games focusing on a group of high school students, trapped by their headmaster, the evil stuffed bear, Monokuma. Yes, he’s a stuffed bear, but a downright terrifying one. In order for the youngsters to gain their freedom they must murder one of their fellow students without being found guilty for the crime. A trial is held allowing your fellow classmates to present evidence they have discovered surrounding the case. If a student is found guilty for murder, they are executed.
However, if a student is accused who did not commit the crime, everyone else in the class themselves are executed, allowing the murderer to leave freely. Playing as one of the students, after a murder takes place, you search for clues and question fellow classmates gathering evidence. When it’s time for a trial you listen to fellow students’ testimonies, looking for holes or inconsistencies in their stories relating to evidence you’ve found in order to determine the killer.
NIS America released the first two games in North America and Europe last year, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and the not-so-well-received spin-off, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. Spike Chunsoft recently held the Danganronpa Project Press Conference earlier this week, so stay tuned for more details.
