Dark Souls 3 is a ‘turning point’ for the series

The upcoming Dark Souls 3 will be a ‘turning point’ for the notoriously brutal action-RPG series, creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has said.

Dark Souls is my life’s work. Everything I came up with for Dark Souls 3 is based on my personal preferences,” said Miyazaki-san, during a chinwag with GameSpot.

However, Dark Souls 3 is also actually the turning point for the franchise,” he added.

Elsewhere, the game designer also expressed interest in bringing the Souls arc to other genres outside of the fantasy realm, and revealed he’s got plans for a number of new projects in the pipeline.

Dark Souls 3 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in early 2016. Check out the first gameplay footage of the game here and read our Dark Souls 3 impressions while you’re at it.

Bandai Namco Games announced earlier this year that the Dark Souls series has moved over eight million copies globally. The upcoming third entry will not, contrary to earlier reports, be the final instalment in the series.
