Dead Island: Definitive Collection heading to PS4 and Xbox One, says retailer

According to a listing on Best Buy, Dead Island: Definitive Collection is heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May 2016.

The retail giant listing confirms that the bundle contains both Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide, alongside an all-new, retro-flavored outing titled Dead Island: Retro Revenge, which takes the form of a 16-bit sidescroller.

The collection will be released on May 31 and can be pre-ordered through Best Buy’s website for $39.99.

While Dead Island publisher Deep Silver has yet to announce a Definitive Collection of the zombie-themed action-RPG series, it’s worth noting this isn’t the first time rumors of a PS4 re-release have cropped up online. In fact, this is the third time Dead Island for PS4 has been listed to date.

Dead Island was released on the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 back in 2011 and was met with mixed reviews from critics. While the open-world zombie actioner was praised for its grisly combat and action-packed gameplay, critics were less than impressed with the array of bugs and glitches that the game shipped with, something which didn’t improve with the follow-up, Dead Island Riptide. Oh, and the less said about the spin-off title, Escape Dead Island, the better.
