Destiny 2 beta image hints at new ship class for Bungie’s sci-fi sequel

The Destiny 2 beta access advertisement from Bungie has seemingly confirmed that the developer will be offering a new ship class for the upcoming shared-world shooter sequel.

While nothing official has been confirmed by the former Halo studio, an eagle-eyed user on Reddit has noted that the beta text contains an image for a new ship design. This echoes what Bungie did with the original Destiny beta, which teased the Phaeton ship class in during various promotional material.

Publisher Activision recently confirmed a Destiny 2 release date of September 8, 2017 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One platforms. In addition, it has been revealed that Bungie will host a dedicated livestream in May that will play host to the first Destiny 2 gameplay footage ahead of its expected E3 2017 appearance. Unlike the original Destiny, the sequel will only be available for current-generation formats, although Bungie isn’t stopping support for the first game anytime soon.

Destiny 2 sees a devastating attack on the Tower and Last City by a vicious Cabal leaving the local Guardian population in tatters. Having lost their equipment and gear (which is why you won’t be able to transfer all your loot over to the sequel), humanity’s last hope is forced to fight an uphill battle in order to retake the Tower and launch a counterattack against the alien invaders.

The original Destiny launched in September 2014 and was supported by four major expansion packs: The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King, and Rise of Iron. In addition, Bungie launched various time-based events such as Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days, and the Sparrow Racing League to keep gamers entertained in between dry spells. Pleasingly, the company has promised that Destiny 2 won’t suffer from the same content droughts that plagued its predecessor.
