Bungie has confirmed that it will be continuing support for the original Destiny for the foreseeable future, despite the impending Destiny 2 release for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in September 2017.
While the shared-world shooter will be wrapping up major events with the release of the recent Age of Triumph update, Bungie is still keeping the door open for players who wish to continue their Destiny adventure. Presumably, we can expect no more DLC in the future, although the developer will likely still roll out any necessary patches for bug fixes, etc.

“Destiny 1 is still a game that will be there for players,” said Bungie community boss, David Dague. “We’ve planned to support it for the foreseeable future, so while we do have a sense of finality and closure as the theme of this [Age of Triumph] event, we are by no means turning the lights off on Destiny 1.”
Bungie last week confirmed a Destiny 2 release date of September 8, 2017, with a GameStop leak over the weekend also revealing that the former Halo developer is planning a major expansion release for winter this year. Players will be able to get a taste of the new game before that however, with the Destiny 2 open beta due to kick off this summer. Oh, and be sure to save up some space on your PS4; the game’s file size has been confirmed, and it’s a bit of a whopper.
Destiny 2 will allow players to transfer various cosmetic elements of their character(s) across to the sequel, but all your stats and gear will not carry over. There’s an in-game logic behind that however, as a deadly Cabal unit has attacked the Tower and Last City, resulting in the Guardian population losing all their possessions. It’s your job to help launch a counterattack and take back humanity’s stronghold.
