A report on Bloomberg has stated that Horizon Hunters Gathering is getting reworked by Guerrilla Games after garnering some negative feedback during its testing process.
Citing sources familiar with Sony’s plans for the game, the live service elements for Horizon Hunters Gathering are being removed so that the game will function more like a regular co-op multiplayer game, and as such is being reduced in scope and will feature a narrative mode. Bloomberg added that development staff were told this week that they have until December to convince bosses that the project should remain in the works.
In addition, the report claims that “many” of the Horizon Hunters Gathering staff are being moved to another project, which is also lined up for evaluation at the end of 2026.
Horizon Hunters Gathering was announced back in February this year, and at the time was described as a co-op action game where players team up as the last of humanity’s defense against the machines. You’ll select from a group of skilled Hunters, each one possessing unique skills and weapons, where you’ll face off against machines either with NPCs or a group of friends.
Sony hosted a second closed test for the game between May 22 — 25, which integrated changes based on player feedback. In terms of content, it featured a new playable episode and two additional Hunters — Ensa and Shadow.
