Bungie has confirmed that it has four season planned for Destiny 2 in its first year, which will bring a range of new content for the shared-world shooter.

Destiny 2 seasons detailed, new content planned

Speaking during the ‘Seasons of Destiny’ panel at TwitchCon over the weekend, the studio revealed that Season 2 is scheduled to kick off in December 2017. This also coincides with release of Destiny 2’s first DLC, Curse of Osiris.

From what we can tell, it is very likely that a new season for the MMO-shooter will kick off every three months or so. With that in mind, Season 3 will probably launch around March-April of 2018.

Bungie has three goals with Destiny 2’s seasons. Firstly, it is aiming to offer fans a “more predictable cadence for game updates,” allowing gamers to know when to expect major updates. As such, the studio is hopeful that each new season will lure players back into the action.

Secondly, each Destiny 2 season is set to change “themes for the player experience.” Examples of this can be seen in plans for the next Iron Banner event, which offers new gear, plus Trials of the Nine, Factions, and The Dawning live event. The latter will transform the Tower with a winter makeover.

Finally, Seasons mark points in the game’s lifecycle where Bungie can implement “sandbox tuning, new features, and more content.” No details were revealed, but the studio confirmed that it has plans in store for Season 2.

These plans tie in with previous comments from Bungie that Destiny 2 will avoid the content droughts that plagued the original game.

While the studio is fully committed to Destiny 2, it did reveal that it is slowly thinking about ‘looking beyond’ the franchise.
