Bungie has confirmed that it isn’t planning on releasing anymore Destiny updates now that it’s focusing on the impending Destiny 2 release this fall.
Writing in a post on its official blog, the former Halo developer confirmed that this year’s Age of Triumph update was the final offering for its 2014 shared-world shooter, with all effort now focused on Destiny 2. However, it’s worth remembering that this does not mean support for the game is shutting down; just don’t expect any new content to rollout for Destiny in the future.
“In our constant watch over the community, we’ve heard many of you asking if the current sandbox will get another design pass. Our sole focus at this time is Destiny 2,” said Bungie. “All hands at Bungie are committed to making Destiny 2 the sequel that this community deserves.”

“One thing you can count on when it comes to Destiny is ongoing assistance to keep you connected and informed. Destiny Player Support is committed to serving that purpose, even after Destiny 2 launches.”
Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on September 8, 2017. The game takes place following the events of Rise of Iron, and sees the Tower under attack from a deadly Cabal unit known as The Red Legion. As a consequence of the assault, Guardians have lost their gear and loot, which means you’ll be starting from scratch in terms of character progression.
The sequel will introduce a number of new features, including a more expansive open-world that features a host of side quests known as Adventures. Furthermore, Bungie is overhauling The Crucible, Destiny’s multiplayer component, to focus on 4v4 matches as opposed to the large-scale battles of its predecessor. Pleasingly, one feature that won’t be making a comeback is the much-loathed Grimoire Cards, with all lore being assimilated in-game rather than via Bungie’s website.
