Life Is Strange developer Don’t Nod has announced what it’s calling a “reorganization project,” the latest phrase the company is using to avoid calling it by another name, layoffs.
In its latest report for its fiscal 2024 half year, the studio confirmed that these layoffs “may affect up to 69 jobs,” with the intention of doing a few things such as “restore more organizational agility,” and “align technologies for greater efficiency.”
However the last of the five intentions listed in what’s also the final section of the report is “secure the company’s financing,” and it’s difficult to feel like any of the other four points really hold any water.
“Amid deteriorating results, and despite the actions already taken, the company is now compelled to consider a reorganization project to safeguard its competitiveness in an increasingly demanding and competitive ecosystem,” the section on the layoffs begins.
“This project could impact DON’T NOD’s workforce in France and may affect up to 69 jobs. An initial exchange took place today with the employee representative bodies, and an information-consultation process with these same bodies will subsequently be initiated regarding this project.”
Layoffs were signaled a little less than a month before with a release from Don’t Nod when it last reported that its recent games Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden sold below company expectations.
At the time it was the hope that ‘layoffs’ wouldn’t be the next announcement from Don’t Nod. At least that was the hope.
