Don’t Nod Has Delayed Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden Into February 2024

Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden was meant to be Don’t Nod’s next title following Harmony: The Fall Of Reverie, and was originally scheduled to launch on November 7, 2023.

That’s no longer the case as Don’t Nod has delayed Ghosts Of New Eden to February 13, 2024, where it’ll then arrive on PS5 and other current-gen platforms.

What’s really intriguing about this delay is that it’s not necessarily because Don’t Nod needs more time to polish it and fix any issues.

Sure, the extra time won’t hurt, but Don’t Nod’s chief executive officer Oskar Guilbert instead cites February as a better time for Ghosts Of Eden to release, so it’s not overtaken in the conversation by the massive releases still to come before the end of the year.

“We have decided to postpone the release of this new franchise by three months, as the market is experiencing an intense release cycle for AAA titles on PC and consoles at the end of the year.” said Guilbert.

He added “We are convinced that a commercial release of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden during a less saturated period will give it the attention it deserves.”

Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden follows two lovers who presumably have bonded over many things but none more so than ghost hunting, though things get dire when one of them becomes the very spirits they hunt.

Don’t Nod isn’t the only studio who decided to move their game’s release to a point in time where it could take up more of the spotlight, it’s just the only studio so far to directly say that’s why it was moved.

Helldivers 2 is the other example of a game originally thought to be launching this year, but will instead arrive in February, and it’s difficult to think that part of the decision process for that release date didn’t include the fact that Helldivers 2 had no way of competing with the lineup of games coming at the end of 2023.

Now Helldivers 2 and Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden have each other for competition, which should make for a more interesting February 2024.
