Id Software has officially announced the next chapter in the DOOM franchise in the form of DOOM: The Dark Ages, a prequel to 2016’s series reboot coming to PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
DOOM: The Dark Ages had previously leaked in a Microsoft court document last year, when it was known as DOOM: Year Zero. The game features a medieval-themed setting that traces the origins of the Slayer, but is still very much what you’d expect from a DOOM game: lots of blood, guts, and massive guns.
The prequel to Doom (2016), Doom: The Dark Ages puts players behind the visor of the mighty Slayer as they battle demonic hordes in grounded, hard-hitting combat inside an epic, cinematic tale of gods, kings and monsters. Supplementing his superhuman skills and over-the-top arsenal, the Slayer will also call upon his colossal Atlan mech to brawl with titanic beasts and retake the skies aboard his ferocious steed: a jet-fueled, cybernetic war dragon.
