Bethesda has revealed that DOOM: The Dark Ages has amassed three million players since its launch on May 15, 2025, becoming the biggest launch ever for developer id Software in the process. The milestone was reached seven times faster than the previous entry in the series, DOOM: Eternal.
“Thank you for making DOOM: The Dark Ages the biggest launch in id’s history – 7x faster to 3 million players than DOOM Eternal,” the studio wrote on X.

The modern DOOM franchise kicked off in 2016 with the self-titled DOOM and was followed by 2019’s excellent DOOM Eternal. Rather than push the narrative forward, DOOM: The Dark Ages takes players back to the beginning, as the game acts as a prequel that takes place between DOOM 64 and DOOM (2016).
