Bethesda Softworks and id Software have released a new trailer for DOOM: The Dark Ages, which shines the spotlight on the game’s narrative as the DOOM Slayer gears up for yet another bloody battle against the minions of hell, this time with a medieval twist.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled for release on May 15, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will not include a traditional multiplayer mode, something which has been addressed by Hugo Martin, DOOM’s head of franchise. In addition, the game’s developer has said that it is possible to complete DOOM: The Dark Ages without using a gun, but admitted you’ll have a tough time doing so.
The modern DOOM franchise kicked off in 2016 with the self-titled DOOM and was followed by 2019’s excellent DOOM Eternal. Rather than push the narrative forward, DOOM: The Dark Ages takes players back to the beginning, as the game acts as a prequel to DOOM (2016).
