The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has revealed that Double Dragon is making a comeback next year with a new 3D beat-‘em-up for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
According to the publication, the new Double Dragon will faithfully reproduce the essence of the classic side-scrolling titles, and features enhanced controls and difficulty settings to fit the modern gaming landscape. The new game is being spearheaded by Arc System Works, and will feature Jimmy Lee, Billy Lee, Roper, Abobo and more characters returning in 3D.

That’s about all we know on the new Double Dragon so far, but it’ll be interesting to see how the franchise presents itself in 3D again (it’s not the first time; Double Dragon II for example was given a 3D makeover in 2013 for Xbox Live).
The Double Dragon franchise originally launched back in 1987 in arcades, and was developed by Technos Japan. Its success lead to a number of home conversions including the NES and Sega Master System. The most recent entry in the franchise was 2023’s Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
