Freelance videogame writer Alexis Kennedy has revealed that BioWare is in the process of developing Dragon Age 4, with the studio having hired him as its first guest writer for the unannounced project.

There are huge differences between all of that and what I’m working on at BioWare,” said Kennedy, during an interview with Eurogamer, “which I can now legitimately say is in the Dragon Age franchise although it has been known for a while.”

What I can say is I have been given considerable autonomy to work on a storyline bit of lore which is well-segregated from other parts of the game. It’s nothing that grandiose, but it is distinct. It’s a bit of lore which has not been addressed much to date in Dragon Age.”

Kennedy previously co-founded the studio Failbetter Games before departing the company back in 2016 to become a freelance games writer. Back in September, he revealed that he had landed a gig at BioWare to work on a “significant piece of content,” although at the time was unable to provide any further details.

Latest Dragon Age 4 news

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a new Dragon Age game. Just last month, voice actress Alix Wilton Regan ignited speculation that she was involved in a new entry in the action-RPG series after posting an elf-shaped hint on her Instagram page. Still, it’s worth pointing out that BioWare has yet to announce a new Dragon Age game, so take all this with a pinch of salt until we hear otherwise.

The first entry in the series, Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, launched on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 and was followed by 2011’s Dragon Age II. The most recent instalment in the franchise hit PS4, PC, and Xbox One in fall 2014 in the shape of Dragon Age Inquisition. The success of the series has resulted in BioWare expanding Dragon Age into other entertainment avenues, including a comic series, action figures, and web series.
