BioWare‘s John Epler has said that although he’d personally like to see the earlier Dragon Age games remastered, the process would be difficult due to the lack of knowledge surrounding the Eclipse game engine that they ran on.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Epler, who serves as creative director at the famed RPG developer, said that while a remastered series is unlikely at this point, he’s not ruling it out completely. However, he admits that he’s probably one of just 20 people who are familiar with the Eclipse engine at BioWare.
I think I’m one of about maybe 20 people left at BioWare who’s actually used Eclipse. It’s something that’s not going to be as easy as Mass Effect, but we do love the original games. Never say never, I guess that’s what it comes down to.

The original Dragon Age was released in 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with Dragon Age II following in 2011 for the same formats. While both games utilised the Eclipse engine, Dragon Age Inquisition shifted to the Frostbite Engine as the series made its debut for PS4 and Xbox One. The latest series instalment, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, came out on October 31, 2024 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
