A new Q&A for Dragon’s Dogma II Dark Arisen has revealed that the development team are working on a Hard Mode for the expansion, which is designed for “seasoned players” that have reached or are approaching the game’s level cap.
Naoto Oyama (Producer) and Kento Kinoshita (Director) both took part in the Q&A, where they answered a series of fan questions on the highly anticipated expansion, which is arriving more than two years after the main game. Kinoshita-san confirmed the Hard Mode while discussing the wide range of player levels in the Dragon’s Dogma II community.
We’re aware that there’s a very wide range of player level across the community, so with that in mind, we’re adjusting the balance so that everyone can enjoy the experience – whether they’re just starting their adventure, still progressing through the game, or have already completed multiple playthroughs. Also, we’re working on a Hard Mode that will provide a satisfying challenge for seasoned players whose stats have reached, or are approaching, the level cap.
What isn’t known yet, however, is whether Hard Mode is launching alongside the Dark Arisen expansion or will be added as part of a later date. Oyama-san added, “please stay tuned for further updates regarding the details of Hard Mode and its release window.“
Dragon’s Dogma II Dark Arisen is due out on October 9, 2026. The expansion offers a new adventure that sees players exploring the long-abandoned region of Norgan, where you join forces with the mysterious Eir, and unearth the secrets of the Fallen Dragon. In addition, players can take part in 12 new Dungeons Challenges, as well as enjoy more variation in the character creator with new hairstyles and tattoos.
