EA keen on Need for Speed movie

Need for Speed may be adapted into a full-fledged Hollywood production with George and John Gatins at the helm, according to Variety.

Publisher Electronic Arts is apparently eager to get a movie based on the long-running racing franchise off the ground, and will produce the flick alongside John Gatins. A script has already been doing the rounds in Hollywood, with the film rights attracting keen interest from Sony and Paramount.

The only major studio not interested is Universal, though this isn’t a surprise considering the firm already has the hugely successful Fast and the Furious franchise under its belt. Paramount, however, is said to be a frontrunner in snapping up the project.

Need for Speed originally released way back in 1994, with the latest instalment, Need for Speed: The Run, hitting stores last November. The game featured appearances by Sean Faris and Christina Hendricks in a plot-heavy iteration that saw gamers racing from San Francisco to New York.

EA is looking to launch a new Need for Speed annually, echoing a similar strategy employed by Activision with Call of Duty.
