EA’s Assassin’s Creed-style action game not out until at least 2020

Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen has indicated that the publishing giant’s Assassin’s Creed-style action game won’t be released until fiscal 2020 at the very earliest.

Speaking during the company’s latest earnings call earlier this week, Jorgensen revealed that the game, which is currently in development at Motive Studios, is still a long way off.

Today we’re building an action genre product that’s probably in our fiscal 2020 or 2021, as well as action-oriented games around the Star Wars genre,” he said “Most of what we’re investing in that’s incremental now probably comes in fiscal 2019 and 2020.”

For reference, fiscal 2020 puts the game out anywhere between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020, while fiscal 2021 would mean it won’t hit shelves until April 1, 2020 – March 31, 2021. In other words, we’re look at a wait of at least three or four years.

We do have a new IP coming next year. We haven’t yet announced it, but it’s something that you’ll see probably coming up soon,” added Jorgenson. “And clearly that’s part of our investment for the franchise, as well as continuing building out the Battlefront franchise with Star Wars for fiscal 2018 as well.”

EA has a busy year ahead of it, with Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 all due out in 2016. Mass Effect Andromeda will follow in early 2017.
