Mortal Kombat over the years has featured plenty of cool and fun characters from outside its own universe, and with the game’s renown and popularity, you’d think that for its latest entry, Mortal Kombat 1, developer NetherRealm would be able to have its pick of DLC characters.
For the ones we know are coming, it really does seem like that, but not every character that NetherRealm and Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon would have wanted made its way into the game.
Most notably, Ed Boon really wanted to feature John Wick in Mortal Kombat 1, but unfortunately couldn’t make it happen.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Boon admitted that John Wick was a character he had his sights set on, but it seemed the studio didn’t get the rights.
“As a matter of fact, that is one of the ones that we tried to get – John Wick – in Mortal Kombat, and we didn’t get it.”
Boon rightly regards that Wick would fit right in among the roster of fighters in a Mortal Kombat game, and players would likely agree, though at least for now its a dream that both Boon and players will have to share.
Hopefully one day, things will change.
