Development of future entries in The Elder Scrolls franchise is likely to remain internally-based, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has revealed.
While not ruling out the possibility of outsourcing the mammoth RPG series to an external studio ala Fallout: New Vegas, Howard said that work on the fantasy games will probably remain an in-house affair.
Quizzed by EDGE on the possibility of external development, Howard replied, "I don’t know, we kind of take it bit by bit."
"I mean New Vegas was unique: as a publisher, we wanted to do something with Obsidian; we knew we were moving on Elder Scrolls; they had a team available. They gave us the pitch and we were like, ‘That would be a really fun game’. But they had experience with the IP, and with Elder Scrolls we don’t have that. I wouldn’t rule that out, but generally with everything we want to keep it internal,” he added.
The latest instalment in The Elder Scrolls series -namely the sumptuous-looking Skyrim — is due out on November 11 for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.
