Embracer Group has revealed that Fellowship Entertainment, which the industry giant announced today would be spun off into its own company in 2027, would “more actively” explore external partnerships for franchises including Legacy of Kain, Saints Row, Deus Ex, and TimeSplitters.
Fellowship is now overseeing major IPs including The Lord of the Rings, Tomb Raider, Dead Island, and Metro, but part of the new plans for the company is to establish a new IP licensing business unit with the hopes of boosting revenue by allowing external partnerships use its IPs for games, film and other media. This isn’t limited to the likes of Tomb Raider and other major IPs, but also franchises such as Thief and Legacy of Kain.
Embracer’s Lars Winefors commented:
In addition to expanding our largest transmedia IPs, The Lord of the Rings/Middle-earth and Tomb Raider, we see great potential to invest own capital in and form new partnerships for our largest other AAA IPs, such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island, Darksiders, Remnant and the licensed Metro series.
Apart from the largest IPs we will more actively be exploring external partnership around our roster of other well-known IPs such as Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, TimeSplitters, amongst many others. Dark Horse will operationally become part of the new IP & Licensing business unit with its long track record of co-producing film and TV shows with partners in Hollywood.
Deus Ex in particular is a franchise that hasn’t seen anything new released in quite some time. Eidos Montreal was working on a new entry in the franchise but the project was cancelled, with Adam Jensen actor Elias Toiufexis claiming it would not have involved his character. In April 2025, it was stated that the developer was looking into resurrecting the series, but the series was deemed “too niche” by potential partners, according to Insider Gaming.
Having said that, we do have Deus Ex Remastered on the horizon, although the game was delayed from its original February 2026 window and has yet to receive a new launch date.
TimeSplitters is another classic IP that sadly had its long-awaited comeback shelved by Embracer Group back in December 2023. The project was being helmed by Free Radical Design, but the company was shuttered and the TimeSplitters revival scrapped as a result.
