Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem Remaster Given New Hope By Nightdive Studios Boss

Stephen Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios, has reignited hope that we may see a remaster of 2002’s cult classic Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.

Speaking in response to a fan this week on the 25th anniversary of the Nintendo GameCube’s release in Japan, Kick made it clear that he would love to see the game receive an overhaul for modern platforms. “Eternal Darkness is one of my all-time favorites and it deserves the treatment I know Nightdive Studios is capable of,” Kick said. “Keep your eye on our Deep Dives…”

Kick has previously expressed interest in an Eternal Darkness remaster, stating back in August 2025 that the horror classic is something “I would personally love to see get re-released.

Eternal Darkness is a GameCube-exclusive survival horror title that sees players taking on the role of numerous characters throughout history, all tied to a centuries-long battle against the mysterious Ancients. The main character, Alexandra Roivas, travels to Rhode Island to investigate the death of her uncle at his mansion, which serves as the hub in between the historical sections of the game, which sees players exploring locations Cambodia, France, Persia, as well as as past version of the Rhode Island mansion.

While players fend off zombies and other creatures with melee weapons and firearms, you can can use the Tome of Eternal Darkness to cast a variety of spells, such as healing your character or enhancing your weapons. Encountering the various monsters in the game will drain your character’s sanity meter, which will cause various effects to transpire – some more subtle than others, including instances of breaking the fourth wall – as your protagonist loses their grip on reality.
