Sony is planning to have every game release on the PlayStation 4 be available to download digitally.
"We’re shifting our platform more and more to the digital side – PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc," Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, told The Guardian in a recent interview. The decision took into consideration indie games since Sony "can have more small games that might be free or available for a couple of dollars, or different services like free-to-play or subscription models."
With a strong emphasis on digital content for the PS4, one has to wonder what the hard drive size of the basic PS4 model will be. Also, will Sony continue their practice of having a game’s digital release be cheaper than the physical – possibly even making them significantly discounted?
Personally, I still prefer physical copies of my games so I can lend them to others easily or have them sitting nicely on a shelf. What would it take for you to switch to an all-digital library for your PS4 games? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to PSU for breaking PS4 news.
