Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Shawn Layden, the former chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, doesn’t feel that bringing PlayStation games to Xbox is beneficial considering his ex-company’s position as market leader.
Microsoft of course has started bringing a number of its first-party titles to PlayStation and Nintendo formats, and will continue this with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in Spring 2025 for the PS5. However, Layden doesn’t feel that Sony would really benefit from dishing out its own software for a rival format like Xbox.
Should PlayStation, with that huge market lead and the momentum, apparently, going forward, should they build versions of their games to run on a competing platform of much smaller size and scale? As the saying goes, I don’t know if the juice is worth the squeeze.

In the same interview, Layden said that he feels video game development costs are ‘not sustainable‘ anymore, and therefore titles should be shorter. The former Sony bigwig also picked MediEvil as the franchise he would like to see PlayStation revisit again in the future.
