Fallout 4 users are reporting a rather nasty game crashing bug that affects the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One versions of Bethesda’s critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic RPG sequel.
This probably shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the nature of Bethesda’s game worlds, which are sprawling affairs packed full of content, dynamic AI, and countless quests to partake in. Indeed, one only has to look at the issues that plagued The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at launch (especially on PS4, those were the dark days) to get an idea of what can go wrong.
While Fallout 4 has enjoyed a relatively trouble-free launch, players are reporting of a bug found in a settlement quest, which requires gamers to head to Mosignor Plaza. Once there, the game reportedly crashes outright. Bethesda has been made aware of the issue on their official forums, so hopefully a fix will be issued at some point.
Fallout 4 shot to the top of the U.K. All Format Chart upon its release last Tuesday, becoming the region’s third biggest launch of the year. In addition, Bethesda confirmed it shipped 12 million copies to retailers to meet consumer demand for launch day, representing a staggering $750 million. In addition, the game also contributed to a 10 percent dip in traffic for the adult video website, PornHub. Be sure to read our Fallout 4 review to see what all the fuss is about. Fallout 4 will be supported by extensive post-launch content, with development already underway on the game’s first batch of DLC. Content is expected to be rolled out until at least late 2016.
Fallout 4 takes place in Boston, U.S., some 200 years after a nuclear war devastated the country, and like Fallout 3, players will emerge from the confines of the Vault to a post-apocalyptic wasteland inhabited by feral creatures and other hazards. Fallout 4 utilizes the Creation Engine, which was previously responsible for powering The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on last-generation consoles, though it has been modified for new hardware. Unlike previous entries in the Fallout franchise, this latest title will include full voice acting for the player character, the ‘Sole Survivor,’ and feature branching dialogue paths similar to the Mass Effect series.
