GfK Chart Tack (via MCV) has confirmed that Fallout 4 has sold over 500,000 units during its launch week in the U.K.
The milestone achievement puts the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic RPG as the 18th fastest-selling video game of all time in the country. As previously reported, the game shipped 12 million copies worldwide for release day, becoming the third biggest launch of 2015 so far.
While the figure does not include digital sales for the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One sequel, GfK notes that Fallout 4 is "one of just four IPs to have sold more than half a million units in a week in the UK." Exact sales figures for the game were not divulged, however.
Fallout 4 was released on November 10 and proved so popular on day-one that PornHub recorded a 10 percent dip in traffic as games flocked to the wastelands of post-apocalyptic Boston. Fallout 4 takes place in Boston, U.S., some 200 years after a nuclear war devastated the country, and like Fallout 3, players will emerge from the confines of the Vault to a post-apocalyptic wasteland inhabited by feral creatures and other hazards. Fallout 4 utilizes the Creation Engine, which was previously responsible for powering The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on last-generation consoles, though it has been modified for new hardware. Unlike previous entries in the Fallout franchise, this latest title will include full voice acting for the player character, the ‘Sole Survivor,’ and feature branching dialogue paths similar to the Mass Effect series.
