Japanese publication Famitsu’s dropped a boatload of tantalizing Tekken Tag Tournament 2 tidbits for your consumption.
According to the magazine (via the chaps at Andriasang), the sequel will include a ‘stage gimmick’ system, which echoes that of previous Tekken games and numerous other beat ‘em ups.
An example of this has the player duffing up their opponent against a wall, which then breaks apart, throwing the unfortunate victim into a new area as the fight continues on.
Unlike standard Tekken games however, the tag system present here has the player’s partner character is lurking on the other side ready to deliver a follow-up attack, causing heaps of damage in the process.
Items also make a comeback from Tekken 6, letting players kit their favourite combatants out with heaps of brain-busting trinkets, including bats and “hammer head” weapons.
In terms of characters, Tekken Overlord Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that every playable fighter from Tekken 6 will make a return, with the Famitsu preview itself shedding the spotlight on Kazuya Mishima, Bob, Ling Xiaoyu and Zafina.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is due for release in Japanese arcades in summer 2011. Expect a console version to pop up at some point later down the line.
