Far Cry 3 Classic Edition 60 FPS Performance Update For PS5 Arrives Jan. 21

Ubisoft is releasing a free update for Far Cry 3 Classic Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on January 21, 2026, allowing the game to run at a butter-smooth 60 FPS.

A once-in-a-lifetime vacation. Unspoiled nature. Open skies. Everything runs smoother at 60 FPS on current gen consoles. Pack light. Things escalate fast,” a post on X read.

Far Cry 3 was originally released for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 in 2012 and is widely regarded as one of, if not the best entry in the franchise to date. The game follows Jason Brody, who finds himself stranded on the fictional Rook Islands after a vacation goes awry and his buddies are kidnapped by pirates, forcing him to fend for himself while attempting to rescue his friends from the island’s unhinged denizens.

Ubisoft re-released Far Cry 3 under the Classic moniker back in 2018 as part of the Far Cry 5 Season Pass, and later released it as a standalone purchase for PS4 and Xbox One a few months later. Controversially, the game was caped at 30 FPS despite featuring enhanced visuals on PS4 Pro and Xbox X, and couldn’t be boosted to 60 FPS. Thanks to this patch however, players are now able to enjoy the game at a higher frame rate on consoles.
