Generic picture, not relating to a videogame
Okay, this headline needs some explaining. Last week, it was rumoured that a Red Dead Redemption 2 live-action trailer was in the works. This was based on filming that was being carried out in Montana in which the producer said he was shooting the footage of fighting cowboys for an upcoming videogame.
However, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who is known for his insider knowledge, claims that it definitely isn’t RDR 2. Also, what’s materialized is that the producer of the footage was none other than Jeff Guillot, who worked alongside Ubisoft on the live-action trailer for Far Cry Primal.
Put two and two together, and it all starts to get a little clearer. This could well be the direction Far Cry 5 is heading and the mysterious footage could be for a trailer for the next game in Ubisoft’s open-world series!
Delve into deeper, way back to 2015, and check out this article from Eurogamer. Ubisoft was polling the public about which direction they’d like to see the series head. One of the ideas that Ubisoft gathered data on was a “Spaghetti Western-style tale in late 19th Century America (Far Cry meets Red Dead!).”
It’s got to be it. Ubisoft is jumping on the Red Dead bandwagon and creating a Wild West game! Likely Ubisoft’s Wild West adventure will bear all the hallmarks of its other open-world games, namely tons of collectibles, dozens of side quests and a colossal check list of things to do.
In the meantime, it’s likely that the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date will hit before Far Cry 5, with the latest rumor suggesting an October launch. We’ll likely hear more about both games at E3 2017, which takes place in June.
