Final Fantasy 15 originally announced back in 2006 as the PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus 13, which formed part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. Square Enix would prove notoriously tight-lipped on the game over the next few years, offering few updates and new media on the project.
However, come 2012, the project was scrapped at around the 25 percent mark, and later re-revealed at E3 2013 for the PS4 and Xbox One as Final Fantasy 15. While the game’s core premise remains the same, the development team lead by Hajime Tabata changed a number of elements; for one, the character of Stella was axed completely, while other bits and bobs were switched up in the transition to current-gen machines.
Final Fantasy 15’s combat employs a more action-based system that has more in common with Kingdom Hearts than the classic Final Fantasy titles, although the return to an open-world setting means players are free to explore and take part in numerous side quests as they see fit.
