Final Fantasy 15 finally hits stores worldwide tomorrow more than a decade after its initial announcement, and thanks to early adopters, we’ve now got an idea of exactly how hefty the game’s download will be on PlayStation 4.
Final Fantasy 15 PS4 file size confirmed
The hotly anticipated JRPG clocks in at 50.698GB for the digital download version of the game, although you’ll be able to play the first part of Final Fantasy 15 once you’ve logged 6.593GB of the download file.
For those interested, the Xbox One version of the long-delayed title takes up almost exactly the same amount of space on Microsoft’s console, requiring 50.94GB of space.
Interestingly, there’s a discrepancy regarding the game’s file size on the PlayStation Store listing of Final Fantasy 15, which claims the Square Enix behemoth weighs in at just over 40GB. However, GameSpot puts this down to merely being an error, as is often the case with pre-release listings for games.
Final Fantasy 15 was originally announced during at E3 2006 as the PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which back then was part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series of games that revolved around the critically-polarizing FFXIII. However, when the project was around 25 percent complete, the team decided to overhaul it for PS4 and Xbox One formats and rename it Final Fantasy 15.
The game itself takes on a more action-oriented feel than previous entries in the venerated JRPG franchise, with combat plucking noticeable influences from the likes of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Type-0. However, the game also reintroduces the large-scale open-world setting that the classic titles have become synonymous with, offering a wealth of side quests for players to tackle.
Final Fantasy 15 owners will have to download a day-one patch as soon as they fire up the game, which adds a wealth of new content including extra cutscenes and social media support.
