Yoshinori Kitase has weighed in a possible Final Fantasy 6 Remake, suggesting the project would take twice a as long as the current Final Fantasy 7 Remake project.
Speaking with French YouTuber Julien Chieze, Kitase-san was asked to expand on previous comments he made about remaking FF6. In response, he noted that FF7 Remake has so far taken around 10 years to develop (the second part is due out on Feb. 29), and remaking FF6 could double that time frame.
This is due to the number of characters featured in Final Fantasy 6, and while he acknowledged many people within Square Enix want him to remake the game, but he’s unable to respond in the affirmative, which ‘bums him out.’

Kitase has touched base on a Final Fantasy 6 remake numerous times in the past. Back in June 2023, he said that staff at Square Enix are still asking about a remake of the fan-favourite title, but Kitase said that he’s unable to think about it until FF7 Remake is done.
Final Fantasy 6 was originally released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, although the game was later ported to the PSOne with all-new FMVs for the introduction and ending sequences.
