Rumour – Final Fantasy IX Remake Was Due Summer 2024, Final Fantasy X Remake Won’t Launch In Time For The Game’s 25th Anniversary

Grab the salt shakers for this one folks, as we’ve got another wild rumour regarding the as-yet unannounced Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X remakes from ex-ResetEra insider ImAHeroToo. To be fair, they have a decent track record and we’ve already heard murmurs about Final Fantasy XI getting an overhaul, but better play it safe just to be sure.

This time around, ImAHeroToo has taken to Reddit to warn people that some folk are posing as the leaker on Discord, but has also provided a few updates on some upcoming Square Enix projects. For starters, Final Fantasy XI Remake was apparently scheduled for Summer 2024, but the project now apparently needs a bit more polishing, so that date may not happen.

As for Final Fantasy X Remake, the leaker claims that the project currently only has a skeleton crew working on it, and therefore it won’t make it out in time for the 25th anniversary of the original game. It’s also been rumoured that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be ported to the Nintendo Switch’s successor, possibly as a launch title, and that it runs like a PS5 game on the console’s dev kit.

As mentioned, none of these projects have been officially announced by Square Enix yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see if they come to fruition. Regarding Final Fantasy IX, website Gematsu also backed up claims that the classic PSOne RPG is getting a remake, while ImAHeroToo previously outed the Final Fantasy X Remake back in June.
